The United Methodist Foundation of Santa Rosa serves Jesus Christ by supporting the long-term funding and investment needs of the First United Methodist Church's church-related institutions and ministries and by educating, encouraging, and enabling individuals to carry out Christian philanthropy.
Grant Policy
Grants from the Foundation are in the form of monetary awards from either the designated or undesignated funds managed by the Foundation. The awards are requested using the general grant request, the undergraduate scholarship form or the graduate scholarship form. The grants are reviewed by the Foundation Board of Directors prior to their vote for approval of the request.
The designated funds are given by donors who have defined a specific purpose for the use of that fund. Undesignated funds may be spent by the Foundation Board of Directors in accord with the Foundation's purpose and the adopted grant policy.
The principal of the gifts to the Foundation remain perpetually endowed (invested) and only the earnings from the funds are available for distribution. This is how the Foundation will always continue growing and helping others.
A gift to the Foundation is a gift that keeps giving, forever!
Undesignated gifts to the Foundation and gifts to the First United Methodist Church over five thousand dollars are placed in the Foundation's General Endowment Fund. Each year the earnings of this fund are distributed according to the following policy:
- Fifty percent goes to the Board of Trustees of the First United Methodist Church of Santa Rosa for non-budgeted expenditures.
- Thirty percent goes to the Church Council of the First United Methodist Church of Santa Rosa for non-budgeted items.
- Twenty percent remains with the Foundation for distribution by the Board of Directors.
Applications for general grants and the scholarship forms are available at this website and in the FUMC Santa Rosa church office. A list of the endowed funds may help you select which fund may be helpful to your grant request. The final decision remains with the Board of Directors.
